Graham Greene

Considéré comme l'un des plus grands auteurs britanniques, Graham Greene est né le 2 octobre 1904 à Berkhamsted en Angleterre. Après des études au Balliol College d'Oxford, il travaille pendant quatre ans comme rédacteur adjoint au "Times", puis comme critique littéraire et cinématographique au "Spectator". En 1929, paraît son premier roman, "L'Homme et lui-même", bientôt suivi par "Orient Express" (1932). Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, , il est agent de renseignements en Sierre Leone. Ses nombreux déplacements vont nourrir son oeuvre: le Mexique pour "La Puissance et la gloire", la Sierre Leone pour "Au fond du problème", l'Indochine pour "Un américain bien tranquille", Haïti pour "Les Comédiens". Romancier, nouvelliste, homme de théâtre, essayiste, engagé sur les plans politique et religieux, Greene a aussi travaillé pour le cinéma, adaptant ses oeuvres à l'écran, écrivant des scénarios, dont ce grand classique du film noir " Le Troisième Homme" (1949). Décoré de l'Ordre du Mérite anglais et nommé "Companion of Honour", Graham Greene est mort en Suisse en avril 1991.
